The Fondation at the COP24

Francisco A. Diaz Lison, General Manager of the Cuomo Foundation, with Abdalah Mokssit, IPCC Secretary General and his Deputy Kerstin Stendahl - Katowice, December 7, 2018

On December 7, Mr. Francisco A. Diaz Lison, General Manager of the Cuomo Foundation, participated in a briefing at COP 24 in Katowice, Poland. Organized on the initiative of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the meeting’s main objective was to present the IPCC Scholarship Programme to the delegates of the 24th Conference of the Parties.

The Fellowship Program, established in 2007 and supported by the Cuomo Foundation since 2013, benefits young researchers under 40 y.o. from the Global South. Their study focus on the three research areas related to climate change: impact, adaptation and mitigation. The Foundation has so far supported 11 research projects promoted by scholars from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The 24th Conference of the Parties, which is being held in Katowice until 14 December 2018, is expected to finalize the rules for implementation of the Paris Agreement. Just like during the COP21 that saw the signature of this agreement, during the present meeting, the Foundation reiterated its willingness to engage in the crucial problems of the contemporary world. This was also the message of the promotional video presented by Mr. Francisco A. Diaz Lison during the meeting that you can view below.
